North Otago’s season in 1949 was a big one, both in terms of results and the amount of fixtures played. 12 first class fixtures were played, along with two further matches against sub-union sides from Otago and Canterbury.

A full tour of the Seddon Shield districts was also undertaken by North Otago, with matches against Marlborough, Golden Bay-Motueka, Nelson, Buller and West Coast.

A Hanan Shield Districts side played a match against the touring Australian side, on September 14 at the Oamaru Showgrounds. Australia won the match 12-0. In the side for North Otago was R. J. T. Halvorsen, A. Berry, E. Collins (captain), M. Sutherland, and S. Mosley.
