A combined North Otago and Ashburton County side played a match against the touring British and Irish Lions on June 6 in Ashburton. The match was won by the Lions by 29-6. In the side for North Otago were R. J. T. Halvorsen (captain), A. Berry, J. K. Martin, G. Johnson, G. Sutherland, S. Mosely, S. McCone, G. Edmunson and E. Sawers.

North Otago player, Stanley Mosely, was selected for the South Island side in the annual North Vs South match for 1950.
